Client & Project Introduction

Founded in 1979, the Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS)is aimed to engage in social development programs for various rural communities living around the operational units of Tata Steel. One of the major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for TSRDS Jamshedpur is Maternal and Newborn Survival Initiative (MANSI) project touching the lives of several villagers. A multi-collaborative association between the Jharkhand Government, Tata Steel, funding agency America India Foundation (AIF) and Gadchiroli based NGO SEARCH, forms the community MANSI which specifically aims to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates. As a part of the Company's operational area to match the Indian benchmark by 2016-17 through Home Based Newborn Care (HBNC), MANSI was launched in Seraikela block of Jharkhand. MANSI drastically reduced the Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) by 61.2% and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) by 63.1%, in the block, over a period of five years. As a result, it was scaled up to 1,686 villages covering a massive 2.2 lakh households in 12 blocks across Jharkhand and Odisha.

The BRICS business council runs an annual collation of the best solutions and practices across emerging countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). `Operation Sunshine’ is MANSI’s application software designed to run on web, mobile phones and tablets. The software application empowers staff of MANSI Project to detect and follow up high-risk newborn babies and pregnant mothers, ease training of women health volunteers and thus helping in mapping of high-priority areas deserving special focus on battling infant mortality and maternal morbidity. The CSR application is aimed to reinvent the traditional manual information capturing with an on-field data capturing provision and a central repository of data, thus providing real-time monitoring.

Our Solution

The dashboard displays a visualization of the identified areas with the number of high risk mothers & neonates in each block. The dashboard helps by analyzing where the number of high risk mothers are more and needs immediate attention. It also acts as a decision support system for the management who can view the details of the missed visits by which health worker along with their contact number. This feature helps the management to call the corresponding worker directly, understand the reason behind the missed visit and assign another worker for the same. This ensures that all mothers and children are attended regularly and proper measures are taken for their cure on-time.
